In today’s automotive industry, remanufacturing plays a vital role in reducing waste, lowering costs, and supporting sustainable motoring. But what does it actually mean to remanufacture a car part to OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) standards? And how does Premier Components contribute to this process?
Let’s take a closer look at the journey a component takes - from its arrival as a used core to its transformation into a high-quality, remanufactured part ready for the road.
Step 1: Sourcing Quality Core Units
The remanufacturing process begins with the sourcing of core units, (used automotive parts that are suitable for refurbishment). At Premier Components, we specialise in identifying and acquiring high-demand cores such as turbochargers, brake callipers, steering racks, diesel injection equipment, and gearboxes.
Our team works closely with trusted suppliers and partners to ensure that every core meets strict criteria for remanufacturing potential. This early stage is critical: only components with the right structural integrity and remanufacturing viability are accepted into our system.
Step 2: Grading and Inspection
Once the cores arrive at one of our warehouses, they enter a multi-stage grading process designed to ensure accuracy and consistency. Each unit is inspected a minimum of four times while in Premier Components’ possession - starting from initial intake, through pre-sort and storage, and again at dispatch.
These inspections include detailed visual checks, functional assessments, and categorisation based on condition, type, and remanufacturing viability. By grading each part multiple times, we minimise the risk of error and ensure that our customers receive the quality and reliability they expect.
Step 3: Smart Storage and Inventory Management
After the pre-sorting grading process is complete, cores are allocated to designated storage locations within our warehouses. These locations are organised by part type, OEM number, and condition, allowing for efficient retrieval when needed.
Our inventory system ensures full traceability (from arrival to dispatch) so we can quickly locate and prepare parts for shipment as demand arises. This structured approach helps us maintain continuity, reduce lead times, and support our partners with reliable supply.
Step 4: Picking, Packing, and Dispatch
Once a core unit is purchased by one of our remanufacturing partners, our team carefully selects the appropriate part from storage. Each unit is securely packed to ensure safe transit and then dispatched to the customer’s facility, where it will undergo the full remanufacturing process.
This step is all about precision and reliability - ensuring that every core arrives in the expected condition, ready for transformation into a high-quality remanufactured component.
Step 5: Remanufacturing to OEM Standards
Once sold and delivered, the core enters the hands of expert remanufacturers who specialise in restoring components to OEM-level performance. The process typically includes:
Many remanufactured parts are backed by warranties comparable to those offered with brand-new components, giving customers confidence in both quality and reliability.
Why Remanufacturing Matters:
Remanufactured parts offer a host of benefits for motorists and the environment:
Remanufacturing is more than just refurbishment - it’s a detailed, quality-driven process that transforms used components into reliable, road-ready parts. From sourcing and grading to storage and dispatch, Premier Components plays a key role in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of this system.
Premier Components is proud to be part of this process, ensuring that every core we handle is treated with care, precision, and purpose. Whether you’re a garage, distributor, or driver, choosing remanufactured parts means choosing sustainability, value, and performance.
